30 – RETIREMENT PRESENTATION KEEPSAKE FROM A8

Retirement Keepsake

This presentation, given to my father on his retirement, is from A8, the section that was responsible for public order, supervising events such as major demonstrations, marches and ceremonials.

There are two signatures here that are familiar to me: one is by Edgar Maybanks, who became a Commander of A8. He was also involved with the Balcombe Street siege and kept in contact with my father contact until end of his life. The other signature is by Michael Mackey, who organised my father’s funeral and helped to make it an occasion that I will treasure for the rest of my life. It concludes with the words that I shall use to conclude this catalogue: “an extraordinarily unique Queen’s Police Man”.
