This photograph is one of those portraits in which the eyes follow you wherever you go! There is a gentle, questioning and amused look in my father’s expression that I have seen so very many times. He was an intriguing combination of immense strength and infinite gentleness, willing to listen with patience and without judgement and ready to act with courage and discernment. He did not seek favour with anyone but sought always to be true to himself throughout his life.
