29 – THE CENTRE PAGES OF THE JOB

The Job Centre Pages

Here are the centre pages of the same issue of “The Job”. They include the article written by my father on his five years in the Met and some entertaining cartoons, including one of a policeman wearing a kilt. My father, inspired the check hatbands worn by the Scottish Police, introduced them into the Met, because he thought that they were much more visible than the plain ones that were worn at the time. I think though that he would have agreed that wearing the kilt might have been a step too far!

There is also a reference to his arrest of the poet and writer, Brendan Behan. What is not mentioned is that the arrest took place on a ferry, during which time my father temporarily mislaid him!

There is also a very comprehensive overview of some of my father’s actions and achievements and more comments from serving officers. These two pages are action packed – rather like my father’s career!
