1- LINE DRAWING OF SIR ROBERT AND HIS LIFE

Sir Robert and his life

This drawing, which was given to my father by P Department on his retirement, is a joyous and definitive explosion of details about his life. It shows his history: his Lacrosse stick – he once played Lacrosse for the “rest of England team”, and his clarinet, which I remember him playing to me when I was a little girl, with me providing the vocals! He loved the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, and used to play them when he was feeling happy. There is our cat, Esmeralda and a copy of Damon Runyan’s Short Stories – “I was standing outside Mindy’s restaurant doing nothing in particular”……. There are some of his awards and a considerable selection of the many newspaper articles covering his years in charge of the Metropolitan Police. This drawing is full of wit and charm, a delightfully spirited celebration of the most renowned Commissioner since Sir Robert Peel.
